St. Baldrick's Day Event

Mar. 25, 2012

Once again, Holy Cross School will be participating in the St. Baldrick's Foundation fundraiser held at Kitty Hoynes.  For those of you that are not familiar, the St. Baldrick's foundation is a volunteer driven charity committed to funding the most promising research to find cures for childhood cancers.  The Foundation began in 2000 when three insurance executives from NY City turned their company's annual St. Patrick's Day party into a head-shaving event to benefit kids with cancer.  They planned to raise "$17,000 on the 17th"  and instead raised over $104,000.  Since 2000, the St. Baldrick's foundation has grown into the largest volunteer fundraising program for childhood cancer in the world.  Since 2000, the foundation has raised over $117,000,000.  The Kitty Hoynes annual event is one of the five largest in the world raising over $375,000 last year.  The event begins with people like you volunteering to raise money from friends, family, colleagues and neighbors.  Then, on March 25th, all of the volunteer shavees gather at Kitty Hoynes Restaurant in Downtown Syracuse to have their heads shaved to show solidarity with children who lose their hair while undergoing cancer treatment.

Last year, the Holy Cross School team, comprised of students and parents (we even had one female participant), raised over $15,000 for this most worthy cause.  If you would like to join our team this year and volunteer to have your head shaved, please send and email to me (dfd347@yahoo.com) and I will send you the link to register for the team.

If you have any questions about this event, please feel free to send me an email or call me at 382-6987.

Thanks,
Brian Schultz
